Although it was ultimately cut short by injury, Joel Embiid has done some pretty cool things during his “rookie” season in 2016-17. But for my (small amount of) money, nothing will top his recent photo shoot with SLAM Magazine.
Growing up in Philadelphia, I personally associate SLAM mostly with one iconic cover, from Issue #32 in March 1999: “Allen Iverson is Soul on Ice,” the headline read. It was so, so cool. And now 18 years later, the magazine decided to run that cover back with the Sixers’ most talented and intriguing player since Iverson:
Philly's next superstar won't play again this year, but The Process is just beginning.@JoelEmbiid covers SLAM 207: https://t.co/RkBYCnrple https://t.co/Tw11197uyP

This is pretty cool. SLAM remade the classic Allen Iverson cover with Joel Embiid. pic.twitter.com/Z6BkXmytBP

Give whoever came up with that idea a raise.
