The Sixers announced that they parted ways with one of their longest-tenured players (which is to say not that long) on Wednesday when they waived swingman Hollis Thompson. The move was first reported by Philly Mag’s Derek Bodner:

Hollis Thompson was in the final year of a 4 year contract. His contract would have become fully guaranteed on January 10th.

Cap hit for Philadelphia on the Hollis Thompson waiver (@DerekBodnerNBA) is $442k. Thompson would have been an unrestricted FA this summer.

The writing may have been on the wall for Thompson, as first-round pick (and fellow wing) Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot has finally found himself in the rotation for the Sixers’ past three games, including 22 minutes last night in the win over Minnesota.
An undrafted player in 2012, Thompson showed up at Sixers training camp after a year in the D-League and stuck around for 3.5 seasons. Not bad. In 256 career games, he finishes his first stint in Philly as a 38.9 percent three-point shooter (not 40 percent, but pretty dang close).

That move means the Sixers now have an open roster spot, and the fact that Thursday is the first day that teams can sign players to 10-day contracts leads to speculation that another move could be coming.
Now, the only current member of the roster who has been here for the entire Process era is Nerlens Noel.
