In all honesty, I don't understand why the Sixers are changing their logos and uniforms at all, but that's what professional sports teams seem to do fairly frequently nowadays. For my money, the current white home uniforms are some of the best in all of sports. Those jawns are clean, and that's about as much jersey/logo criticism you'll receive from this post.
OK, that's a lie. Phase one of the "updated #brand identity" is complete as the team unveiled its new logos earlier today. The one that you see on top is the new primary logo and below are the new secondary ones. Again, not a very dramatic change. And before you go criticizing the Ben Franklin choice, I heard he and John Adams used to absolutely run the pick-up games after Continental Congress adjourned:
This GIF from CSN Philly's Tom Finer shows how little the actual basketball changed (if anyone can set this to "Roundball Rock," I think that would work nicely):

Logo king Chris Creamer provided a history of the team's logos, and man, what the heck were we doing in the late-90's and most of the 2000's? Forget Billy King's poor free-agent signings; no team that looks like that is even sniffing a championship. It's a testament to Allen Iverson that he dragged that logo to the NBA Finals:

As you would imagine, a logo change is absolutely perfect for Twitter and other social media. The Sons of Ben correctly pointed out that the new logo looks very much like the Philadelphia Union's, which is unfortunately probably the best bit of publicity the Union have received all season:

And finally, Dan McQuade made a pretty funny photoshop:

The new uniforms will publicly debut at an event on June 18th at the Wells Fargo Center, and the likes of Billy Cunningham, Allen Iverson, Moses Malone, and Daryl Dawkins are set to attend. Current Sixers players will be there as well, most likely modeling the new gear.
