Sixers and Brett Brown agree to two-year contract extension

UPDATE [5:05 p.m.] -- GM Sam Hinkie and the Sixers have confirmed the Yahoo! report of a two-year extension for head coach Brett Brown, which will keep him at the helm through the 2018-19 season.

FROM EARLIER

Boy, the Sixers have had quite an eventful week.

On Monday, both Brett Brown and co-managing owner Josh Harris said the team and its head coach were in 'deep discussions' on a contract extension. The Sixers called a press conference at 5 p.m. today with Brown and general manager Sam Hinkie, where they announced a two-year extension for Brown. Trust it...

Like always, Woj had it first:

Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown has agreed to a two-year contract extension that runs through the end of the 2018-19 season, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Negotiations on the extension had started before the front-office shakeup that elevated chairman Jerry Colangelo over president and general manager Sam Hinkie on Monday.

This was the right move. Even if you have reservations of Brown as a coach long-term, he has handled the public relations aspect of this job splendidly. Stability is a good thing, and he has earned the right to coach more talented players. And hey, I got one of my predictions correct.

We will have much more from "The Center."
