Pennsylvanians pay more for a case of beer – and not even a particularly very good brew, at that – than anybody else in the nation, according to a study from Simple Thrifty Living.
According to the report, a 24-pack of Bud Light cans from Walmart runs an average of $21.93 in Pennsylvania, the highest in the United States.
Trailing Pennsylvania, by one cent, is Tennessee.
Researchers figured this out by pricing two of the nation’s most popular beers – Bud Light and Miller Lite – and researched prices mainly at Walmart and Total Wine in different states. They focused on the most popular method of delivery – 12-ounce cans.
“While many may not consider these to be great beers, there is no denying their popularity,” the report says. “As a note, we did look into doing prices on craft beers, but to achieve consistency throughout the entire country, it was more practical to stick to big domestic brands.”
Surprisingly low on the list of priciest beer states was California at $14.87. Michigan was the cheapest at $14.62.
