In minor league baseball, "Star Wars" nights are becoming almost as ubiquitous as dollar dog nights, what with the science-fiction franchise getting a recent reboot, complete with new movies and marketable characters.
Finding a new take on the promotion could prove difficult, but it seems the Phillies' Double-A affiliate has found a way. On Saturday, June 4, the Reading Fightin Phils will wear Chewbacca jerseys against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Check them out (h/t CrossingBroad):

An auction after the game will give fans in attendance a chance at getting their hands on one of these game-worn, Wookie-inspired shirts. The promotion also includes appearances from "Star Wars" characters (no, not the actual actors) and postgame fireworks set to “Star Wars” music.

It's too bad the Fightins aren't putting these bow-blasting bad boys up for retail sale, because they're pretty awesome (granted, it’s not really clear how Chewbacca relates in any way to the Fightins). Hopefully they'll eventually take a page from their Triple-A counterparts, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, in merchandising their over-the-top jersey concoctions.
