Philadelphia police have announced the arrest of an officer in the city's 19th District, who was arrested on Monday, Dec. 28 after allegedly being involved in a domestic altercation.
According to police, Officer Deric Lewis, 35, was taken into custody by Upper Darby police after being involved in an off-duty, domestic altercation with a female.
When responding officers arrived on scene, law enforcement officials note that Lewis did not comply with their requests to turnover his identification, and he allegedly remained disorderly toward arresting officers.
Lewis has been charged with simple assault and harassment.
According to law enforcement officials, Lewis is a nine-year veteran of the city's police force and was assigned to the 19th District in West Philadelphia.
On Monday, the now former Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey suspended Lewis for 30 days with the intent to dismiss.
