A Pennsylvania State Trooper is facing multiple drug charges after he was arrested for allegedly buying cocaine in Chester County.
Jose Lebron, from Troop J Avondale, was taken into custody Friday. He is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility, according to the criminal complaint obtained by WGAL.
A confidential informant told authorities that Lebron had been purchasing cocaine and pills for several months. The informant also claimed to have witnessed Lebron use cocaine.
State police allowed the informant to arrange a deal to have Lebron purchase cocaine. Lebron traveled to the informant's residence in his police-issued vehicle and agreed to buy an "eight ball" of cocaine at a later date.
Troopers provided the informant with cocaine to set up a meeting with Lebron at the New Garden Shopping Center in New Garden Township.
The informant and Lebron met at a McDonald's on Friday around 6:20 p.m. The informant gave Lebron 3.5 grams of cocaine. Lebron believed he saw a police officer and told the informant he would complete the transaction at a nearby Dollar General. At that location, troopers observed Lebron handing the informant money and arrested him.
According to the criminal complaint, Lebron was not acting in any official duty and did not receive authorization to purchase narcotics.
Lebron posted $5,000 bail and was released.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled on Friday.
