An investigation is underway after a decomposed human leg washed ashore along the Delaware River, authorities said.
The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office announced that a woman made the gruesome discovery Sunday while walking her dog in National Park. The area is located across the river from the Navy Yard.
Officials said the leg was detached below the knee, but no other body parts were located. There were no clothing, markings or other identifying features on the limb.
The county medical examiner's office will collect a DNA sample to attempt to make an identification.
The West Deptford Police Department is assisting with the investigation.
