While very little of substance generally takes place during the month of August in the NBA, the Sixers were involved in a pretty strange story today. First, take a gander at what appears to be a legitimate news broadcast from NTV in Kenya airing a report that the Sixers signed 6-foot-6 Joseph Njuki:
A quick Google search doesn’t reveal much on Njuki or his basketball career. Where this story gets even stranger is that two Sixers beat writers, Keith Pompey and Tom Moore, refuted the original report. In fact, Pompey’s source had never even heard of Njuki:
#Sixers front-office source said the team doesn't intend to sign Joseph Njuki, reportedly a 6-6 Kenyan. Reports saying they will are FALSE!

The team source never heard of Njuki.

Report on Kenya TV #Sixers are signing Joseph Njuki 'not true,' according to #NBA source.

Somebody who doesn’t have any footage on YouTube in today’s age would qualify as a major “diamond in the rough.” Yet when it comes to the Sixers and their plan to acquire talent at this
stage of their rebuild, you can never dismiss anything out of hand. For now, though, I think it’s pretty safe to roll with Pompey and Moore on this one.
