That new poutine place opening in Philly already has competition: Shoo Fry, a french fry bar that began as a pop-up, is setting up shop in Rittenhouse, Billy Penn reports. It will replace Underdogs, the gourmet hot dog joint, at 132 S. 17th St.
Shoo Fry is like Waffles & Wedges, but for regular french fries: You choose your type of fries (curly, classic, wedges, etc.); add on a protein like chicken, pulled pork or bacon; then pile on toppings and sauces. Or you can try what Shoo Fry refers to as its "tried-and-true" creations, like Cheesesteak (!) with the requisite wiz, or PB&J (uhh...). Shoo Fry will also sell sliders and milkshakes.
It's all run by husband and wife Matt and Rachel Baiada, who told Billy Penn Shoo Fry is a "classy french fry bar." The pair started the business as a pop-up in King of Prussia but soon teamed up with a franchise business. They now plan to open multiple outlets very soon after their Rittenhouse locale opens in late April/early May.
Fries will range from $4 to $7, sliders for $2 and milkshakes will be $5. And if you think this all sounds perfect for a late-night bite, you're right: They plan to be open to 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. on weeknights and 'til 3 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
