The Philadelphia Podcast Festival is a little like speed dating. You pick a podcast series that interests you, go to a live recording of it and then either fall in love or try your luck with a different one the next day.
There are plenty of fish in the sea. More than 55 podcasts will be recording live shows at eight venues across the city from July 14 through July 23. Many are free to attend; some require tickets.
Below are five of the more intriguing shows, but check out the full list here.
Description: Half reality show, half self-help podcast and one wild social experiment. Join comedian Jolenta Greenberg and her skeptical friend Kristen Meinzer as they live by the rules of a different self-help book each episode to figure out which ones might actually be life-changing. First up, the massive best-seller "The Secret."
Description: Join Dr. Sydnee McElroy and her husband Justin McElroy for a tour of all the dumb, bad, gross, weird and wrong ways we've tried to fix people.
Description: Mike, Raul, John and Sharjil take an audience-suggested movie and turn it into a fully improvised radio-play.
Description: Have you ever been out all night and watched the sunrise or ended up at a stranger’s apartment and had to make a great escape? Fall asleep on a train or bus with no phone or wallet stranding yourself far from home? Have you started a dance party at a Wawa? Sean and Robyn will be listening to all these stories and sharing their own similarly inspired drunken acts.
Description: An NPR-style interview show, where the subjects are alien refugees, stranded time-travelers, low-rent superheroes and other such fantastical people. Think "This American Life" meets "Strange Tales."
