The El Bar manager Jasper DelCarlino along with two Philadelphia Police officers with Humphrey the pelican. Humphrey was returned to the bar after a neighbor of the males who took him tipped DelCarlino off.
The staff at The El Bar at 1356 N. Front St. have recovered a stolen vintage pelican statue after some assistance from the Philadelphia Police Department.
After seeing the article about the stolen pelican on PhillyVoice Saturday afternoon, a neighbor of the unidentified males in possession of the bird messaged bar manager Jasper DelCarlino.
The neighbor could reportedly see the statue sitting in a nearby backyard. DelCarlino then called police, who accompanied him to the house in Northern Liberties where the pelican, named Humphrey, was.
Police entered the home and took Humphrey back to his rightful owner. The bar is not pressing charges.
Humphrey went missing on July 31, according to a Facebook post, as surveillance footage showed a man in a black and yellow shirt taking the bird from the back porch of the bar and handing it over the fence to a friend around 10 p.m.
DelCarlino told PhillyVoice that the bar is noted for the weird things inside, including the pelican. Humphrey was purchased at Jinxed Fishtown on Frankford Avenue.
