For one Maryland bride, proving to her father that she had stayed "pure" up until her wedding day was important.
So on Oct. 10, Brelyn Bowman presented her father with a "certificate of purity" before she said "I do."
"I was able to present a certificate of purity to him signed by my doctor that my hymen was still intact," Bowman explained in a post on Instagram. "Also the covenant he gave me when I was 13. When you honor God, your life will automatically honor others!"
A few weeks before the big day, Bowman posted a photo of the couple's wedding invitations, extending an invite to anyone who wished to attend the celebration.
"How many times have you witnessed two virgins get married?" she wrote.
While the couple has received some backlash, Bowman stands by her decision.
"If one person has made a decision to wait until marriage or decide to stop & wait we have done our job!" she wrote in a post thanking social media users for their support.
"Let's make Jesus famous!"
