The way things work in the NBA at this time this year, news usually breaks with a “Woj Bomb.” J.J. Redick signing a one-year, $23 million deal with your Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday afternoon was no different:
JJ Redick has agreed to a one-year, $23 million deal with the 76ers, league sources tell ESPN.

How about that for some real, live Sixers free agency news? It was a surprise to most that the 33-year-old Redick took only a one-year contract, but the Sixers ponied up the short-term money and offered him a defined role as the veteran starting shooting guard on a team that desperately needs the floor spacing he brings to the offensive end of the floor.
But we have all the time in the world to talk about the on-court fit. Redick, who hosts a very good podcast in addition to running off screens and knocking down triples, is also social media savvy. Remember, he kicked off the whole DeAndre Jordan emoji war a couple years ago:

And after he agreed to a deal with the Sixers, Redick took to Twitter:

It’s safe to say that Sixers fans and players were generally pretty excited about the prospect of Redick playing in Philly. Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter, starting with who else but…

Really expected Redick to find a longer term deal. Really like the 1 year, big money deal.

I will take JJ Redick for one year 100 times out of 100.

JJ Redick turned down longer-term offers from both the Minnesota Timberwolves and Brooklyn Nets to sign with Sixers, per source.

Sick of ring chasers like JJ Redick and Amir Johnson signing with a team like the Sixers. Bad for the league.

I'd love if the 76ers utilize JJ Redick more creatively than he was in LA. Imagine on-ball screen actions with Redick screening for Simmons.

Philly is everyone's new favorite team and how can you be mad at that? I'm so here for the 76ers and the process.
— Oliver Maroney (@OMaroneyNBA) July 1, 2017
I like what Philly is doing. They needed vets and more professionalism, they needed shooting and they needed 2018 flexibility.
— Bill Simmons (@BillSimmons) July 1, 2017
Love JJ Redick for Philly. Perfect next to Fultz but more importantly brings a competitive fire and professionalism those youngsters need.
— Mike Schmitz (@Mike_Schmitz) July 1, 2017
I did not see Redick agreeing to a one-year deal. Was wrong about that. Fits what they need, will be a great mentor to the young guys.
